Silvertear Lake

Been very much enjoying spending time in the overworld in game. Usually I just fly from point A to B asap for quest objectives and such, missing out on just how pretty locations are, especially in the right lighting.

In other news, attempt #2 at embroidery, trying to do lakeland/crystarium patch. The eventual goal is patches for more locations, and learning the CAD for machine embroidery.

punch

I guess I didn't realize how odd it is that I feel better reading "sad" (broadly defined) stories when I'm feeling down. A new friend mentioned that he watched a lot of slice of life anime and the fluff cheers him up when he's down and I was just sitting there thinking how unfathomable that is. Welp?

All this preamble is for some quick impression of the recent books that I finished. Very much not feel good books:

  • To add to Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow - it was a very grounding description of human relationships. I like Marx’s character a lot.
  • Free Food for Millionaires - I like more than Pachinko because setting is more relatable. Was another big emotional punch for me, something about you could love two women at the same time but it’s not practical. Ending feels a bit rushed, especially with Leah and Charles story, but I can’t say that there’s insufficient closure. Hope Min Jin Lee releases more books soon!
  • Anxious People - let’s get the bad out of the way first, I find the writing style to be grating. The parts in second person, the overly conversational style, the breaking of the forth wall, ugh. But the ending is worth suffering through the writing for, it strikes just the right tone of hope. Like very much positive and optimistic, but in a non saccharin way that’s off-putting when experiencing anxiety and related afflictions. It’s nice to hear that affirmations about doing your best.

Doma Castle

I finally have a glam with a suzaku piece, loooove the glow but boy was I picky with what I wanted to pair with it. Frankly I'm not 100% satisfied with this glam, but until I get into custom mods it's good enough. The overexposure also bothers me to no end, but it's also a compromise to make for this particular backdrop.

Onto the seiryu glam next!

Tatouine

This must be the first book that I finished reading out of spite. Independent People came close, but that was moreso I needed to find out why Ben likes it so much. Some other books I finished out of a desire to prove that I can read an author or genre (The Waves & As I Lay Dying immediately comes to mind).

Back on topic, I really did not like this book. At all. But that's not saying it's bad. I just could not enjoy the poetic quality of the book, nor anything about the character. I suppose some parts of his thought process is relatable but it's not a good feeling regardless haha. It is quite useful to read when I'm having trouble falling asleep, since after 10ish minutes of reading this I would rather try sleeping again.

My desk area is slowly becoming more XIV themed, and I have more merch incoming :D

Suzume no Tojimari

T'was fun to see this in theatres with other Shinkai loving friends. The animation quality is amazing, some scenes is literally the team showing off. Somehow I still think the movies should have Tenmon's soundtrack so the music felt really different, but not bad I guess.

I wasn't paying full attention to the lyrics at the theatre but boy do I love them after looking it up:

Red lines, blues lines you carry inside
The twain shall meet at the center of your heart

In a voice that withstands the wind
I’m bringing up the words to deliver

Time is a sleeper, wind the soft skin, the star is a cradle, people are a mirage
If this tear answers your question of why I’m crying
It’s not as close to the meaning of us finding each other

It’s the shout that this body alone will never be enough
Found a heart that trembles only when I touch your hand
How many meanings must we get over to be there?

Could be stupidity, could be ugliness, beyond what’s right, I want to hold hands with you
Precious memories I can’t recall
These are the thoughts that can’t be put into words

Maybe, just maybe
That’s all this heart is made of

Maybe, just maybe
It still beats your heart
Wanting you to “notice me”

If this tear answers your question of why I’m crying
It’s not as close to the meaning of us finding each other

It’s the shout that this body alone will never be enough
Found a heart that trembles only when I touch your hand
How many meanings must we get over to be there?

Could be stupidity, could be ugliness, beyond what’s right, I want to live with you

I got real teary by the point of the last door where it's a series of people saying variations of "I'm off" and "take care", and when the male/female lead hugged goodbye at the train station.

Overall I'd rank it 4th in my list of his works:

  1. 5cm
  2. Garden of Words
  3. Weathering with You (or maybe Voices of a Distant Star, but I don't remember it as well)
  4. Suzume

Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow

Enjoyed the book, probably will read the author's other works. This quotation tho:

"I love you, too, Grandpa." For most of his life, Sam had found it difficult to say I love you. It was superior, he believed, to show love to those one loved. But now, it seemed like one of the easiest things in the world Sam could do. Why wouldn't you tell someone you loved them? Once you loved someone, you repeated it until they were tired of hearing it. You said it until it ceased to have meaning. Why not? Of course, you goddamn did.

water lily

I redid half of my yard as the house was being decorated, always wanted to use the water lily piece. Might redo the whole thing at some later date since I do really like the concept of crossing Lethe, but that means giving up some of my trees ;o;

Anna

Onto the 5th book in the series and turns out I forgot to post a quotation from Abaddon's Gate:

No matter what they looked like, or what they chose to call Him, when a group of people called out to God together, they were one. Even if there was no God, or one God, or many gods, it didn't matter. Faith, hope, and love, Paul had written, but the greatest of these is love. Faith and hope were very important to Anna. But she could see Paul's point in a way she hadn't before. Love didn't need anything else. It didn't need a common belief, or a common identity.

The timing of finding this just feels like fate laughing at me tho, sigh.

2 new glams and a whole lotta fishing last week:

Otherwise been busy being social, I surprise myself. But the Toronto XIV folks are plenty fun to hang out with.

All Time High

FINALLY saw Epik High after like 4 failed attempts and I am very happy about the concert. Line up was pretty crazy, arrived 30min before doors open and the line has snaked 3/4 way around the block. By the time we got in and bought merch, the pit was half filled.

They played a pretty high energy set understandably, I do wish they included a song from sleepless_____ and also Champaign. Felt pretty emotional hearing One since that's the song (or was it Run?) that got me into them. Their stage presence is great, so adorable to see them interact with each other.

Also have a cap that is not from my company to wear now.
