backlog

I have a lot of cool stuff saved on my hard drive or instapaper for "the future" when I will "have time". Aka never. But it's such a shame to not revisit some of these things, so here's some attention that they deserve.

1. Douglas Hofstader articles from Scientific America (also old issues of the magazine I got from high school).
Seriously, I swear I'll read these one day. This one day was suppose to be sometime in the summer break that just passed. Never will I be as free as then "orz. This article (Presidential Lecture) by Hofstader I did read! I also tried reading GEB, but I don't get it. Hofstader too smart, there's an entire subreddit devoted to the book, as well as a MIT Openware courseware. Someone please commit to the course with me.

2. Lockhart's Lament.
I'm pretty sure I've posted or told some of you about this, but too lazy to check. A good read.
Bonus: very difficult math problems (lecture by David Hilbert).

3. What's Your Favourite Deep, Elegent, or Beautiful Explanation?
If quora is a book and had even better responses. ONE DAY, all of these books shall be read!

4. Classic literature
I miss summer because I miss having free reading time. It's embarassing how little of these titles I've read, though a good amount appeared on my reading list at some point in time. PEY year is when I catch up! Another list from Zen Habits

5. The Country of Blind- H.G.Wells
Funny how I got the idea of the post because I came across a H.G.Wells quotation. Not the one I posted before though, and wikiquote has different wording:
The past is but the beginning of a beginning, and all that is or has been is but the twilight of the dawn.
It also makes so much more sense in context, (the context sounds rather similar to the content of APS301). H.G. Wells reminds me of Vonnegut, like a british version that was affected by WWI instead of WWII (aka pretty awesome, gots to read his books too).

6. A lot of hotels to visit (hinthint Rui leggo).
Moral of the post: go through my instapaper and downloads folder more often.

I tried to do a one liner summary of my core courses:
  • Engineering Mathematics: approximate until the number is close enough.
  • Tech, Society, and the Biosphere: lack of context is killing us all!
  • Solid Mechanics: stress and its friends.
  • Fluid Mechanics: pressure and its friends.
  • Urban Engineering Ecology: let's start by doing a mass/energy balance.

Dave is too nice to me hehe.

Worth the hype (y).

I get the feeling that the majority of my posts during the school year will either be about school, or food, but probably both.

PS. Jony Ive and Apple's philosophy. This is why I buy their products.

Not the best week (bad days tend to have positive feedback) but could be worse. It's just week 3 and has been a constant stream of work durr. Pretty sure I was still chilling at this time last year haha.

But shepheard's pie and chocolate tarte is a pretty good fix (y)
Also the ready-made food selection at Carlton St Loblaws is freaking amazing (non of the two are from Loblaws though).

I would really like to do nothing for the weekend, but problem sets, report and research for another report calls.
Report back soon.

33 hours

This is a good summary of my day(s).

The schedule took way too long to make, which means there's some shortcut in ID that I'm not aware of. Can you create arrays of guidelines? *u* (or just repeat in the same direction at a set interval?)

Wheeee iOS7!

Spent a lot of money since school year (eSPI why would you have an $100 registration fee? "orz) started and just committed to spending more (MOO sale and splitting Jetpens order with friend). Also sharing groceries with others is expensive too.
I want my income ;_;

eat

Good bibimbap at Hosu, and the most home tasting homecooked meal.

Ps. smoothies are awesome breakfast food, super fast to make with an immersion blender too.

peanut butter dragon

^the most relevant title in a long time

A benefit of a condo over res is that you have a fully equipped kitchen. With an oven. So that you can bake emergency study cookies. I remember Janice saying a long time ago that she bakes when she's stressed, touche.

Or you can hug a cuddly stuffed animal, that works too.

(ignore the poor image quality, I want iPhone 5S' new camera *u*)

I stole the name Dragon from Mel's idea for Nick's dog. Too cool of a name not to be used. I also think he looks better in the jacket.

go

Here's nice music to work to :)

Love the humming in the first 30s, so calming~
